Let’s have lots of green space around the Hub. Just five minutes of exercise in a “green space” such as a park can boost mental health. There is growing evidence that combining activities such as walking or cycling with nature boosts well-being. The study in the Environmental Science and Technology Journal suggested that the strongest impact and health changes, both mental and physical, were in young people. The biggest effect was seen in the just five minutes.
Paul Farmer, chief executive of the mental health charity Mind, said the research is yet further evidence that even a short period of green exercise can provide a low cost and drug-free therapy to help improve mental well-being.
